“Monopoly Gamer: Mario Kart” was released to GameStop stores on Wednesday, giving fans another way to enjoy Super Mario Bros. characters in a beloved board game.
The game has some twists and changes unique to its theme that haven’t been seen in other Monopoly games, Engadget reported. First, the tokens are characters — Mario, Princess Peach, Luigi, and Toad Mario — and they have different powers that play in different ways in the game.
For instance, when the Toad player rolls a Power-Up Boost, all the players are required to pay that player a coin, Thrillist reported.
Properties are Kart-themed, including the famous Rainbow Road, and players have to dodge bananas and shells as they move around the board. Furthermore, passing Go triggers a race in which players vie for the Grand Prix card.
The game plans to expand into other retailers over the summer, and a power pack slated for fall release will expand character selection to include Bowser, Rosalina, Shy Guy, Metal Mario, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi, Nintendo Everything reported.
The Twitter crowd seemed mildly excited about the new game.
Except for this guy.
