Marilyn Hartman, the 63-year-old known as the "serial stowaway," was arrested yet again Sunday, this time at Chicago Midway International Airport where she was spotted loitering near a checkpoint.
Hartman remained in the Cook County Jail Wednesday on a $2,500 bail after she was charged with
violating terms of a previous bond, the Chicago Tribune reported. The arrest comes just a few weeks after she was arrested for trespassing at Chicago O'Hare International Airport on April 24.
Hartman has been arrested several times at airports across the country for attempting to slip pass ticket takers and
security onto jetliners, according to WLS-TV. She actually made it onto a flight from San Jose, California, to Los Angeles last August.
Hartman was sentenced to probation for the incident and told to stay away from the airport, but was caught by authorities again later in the month at
Los Angeles International Airport, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Hartman was sentenced to 177 days in jail but released less than a week into her term because of jail overcrowding, the newspaper noted.
Authorities have arrested her seven times at the San Francisco International Airport and at least four other times at various other airports. Hartman has said in the past that she suffers from mental illness and is homeless, WLS-TV reported.
Chicago Police spokeswoman Janel Sedevic told the Tribune that on April 24, Hartman was arrested around 4 p.m. at O'Hare when airport personnel spotted her loitering in a restricted area near a ticket counter at its international terminal.
Hartman did not have an airline ticket and gave no reason for being in the area, leading authorities to charge her with a misdemeanor count of a criminal trespass to state land, Sedevic said. She entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to a year of court supervision.
San Mateo County, California, district attorney Steve Wagstaffe said that Hartman has declined offers for help.
"We tried everything, including offering our hand to help her out," he told WLS-TV. "She doesn't want a hand. I think she just wants to fly."
