Maria Bartiromo Scoops Up Don Imus Time Slot on Fox Biz News

By    |   Tuesday, 12 May 2015 10:51 AM EDT

Maria Bartiromo will take over Fox Business Network's 6 to 9 a.m. time slot as Don Imus retires his morning show after 6 years.

AdWeek reported Monday that the new show will be called "Morning Money With Maria Bartiromo" and will be bookended by a new 5 to 6 a.m. pre-Wall Street opening show as well as "Varney & Company" in the 9 to noon slot.

"Cavuto: Coast to Coast" will follow from noon to 2 p.m., "Trish Regan Intel" will run until 3 p.m., and "Countdown to the Closing Bell with Liz Claman" will stay in its 3 to 4 p.m. timeslot. Gerri Willis' "The Willis Report" will be canceled, but she will remain an on-air contributor for FBN and Fox News Channel.

Bartiromo began at FBN in early 2014 with her show "Opening Bell" after having spent more than 20 years on the airwaves at CNBC. She will now compete in the same timeslot as CNBC's "Squawk Box."

Before joining FBN in 2009, the 74-year-old Imus worked at MSNBC from 1996 to 2007, and in radio for years before that. He moved to FBN after making racial comments on-air about the Rutgers women's basketball team.

Imus said he plans to spend more time in Texas, where the weather is better for his respiratory problems and because his son has a rodeo career there.

Roger Ailes, the chairman and CEO of Fox Business Network, said in a news release that, "Replacing Imus with a business news morning show anchored by Maria Bartiromo and adding Neil Cavuto to two hours in daytime enables FBN to have tremendous depth."

The new lineup is also likely to optimize the network for the upcoming presidential elections.
