New York Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman wants to fight NASCAR's Kyle Larson for uttering a racial slur during a live-streamed virtual race. Larson lost nearly all of his sponsors earlier this week and was fired from his job and now he could find himself pummeled by Stroman.
"He should never be allowed to race again in @NASCAR," the 28-year-old baseball star tweeted Tuesday. "Said that derogatory word so nonchalantly. Your apology doesn’t matter. Post-career ... I’ll fight this man in a @ufc event for charity. He needs his ass beat. Would love to hear him say that word in the octagon!"
The unraveling of Larson's career began Sunday evening when he was competing in an iRacing event broadcast to followers on the gaming app Twitch as well as eNASCAR.com.
During the livestream, Larson appeared to lose communication with his spotter on his headset.
"You can't hear me?" Larson said to his spotter. "Hey, n***a."
Larson apologized on Monday, stating that there was "no excuse" for what he had said, adding that he "wasn't raised that way," according to New York Post. His statement could not prevent him from losing his job.
"After much consideration, Chip Ganassi Racing has determined that it will end its relationship with driver Kyle Larson," Ganassi said. "As we said before, the comments that Kyle made were both offensive and unacceptable especially given the values of our organization. As we continued to evaluate the situation with all the relevant parties, it became obvious that this was the only appropriate course of action to take."
