A map to a dead wife's body was left in her husband's suicide note, leading authorities to a remote area in Allegan County, Michigan.
The man, Christopher Lockhart, was a sole person of interest in the disappearance of his wife, Theresa Lockhart, who went missing in May, International Business Times reported.
On Wednesday police located her body, which was found in a shallow grave, when they discovered a map leading to the burial spot included in Christopher Lockhart's suicide note.
Nick Armold, director of public safety for the city of Portage, said Christopher Lockhart admitted to killing his wife on May 18 and disposing of her body the following day, NBC News reported.
The couple allegedly had an argument on the night of the murder and Christopher Lockhart "just snapped."
Armold said there was remorse expressed within the suicide note, with the 47-year-old asking for forgiveness.
He had been arrested four times since his wife was reported missing on charges unrelated to her disappearance, MLive reported.
Christopher Lockhart did not serve any jail time but he was expected to comply with the Office of Community Corrections.
When he missed a parole appointment, police visited his home, where they discovered his body on Tuesday.
The New York Daily News also reported that Christopher Lockhart hung himself in his Portage, Michigan, home.
