Manti Te'o, the Notre Dame linebacker who might have been an NFL first-round draft choice had it not been for his fake girlfriend hoax, was left sitting at home in Hawaii and waiting to see what happened in following rounds on Friday in New York City.

There was a definite lack of interest in Te'o during the first round Thursday at Radio City Music Hall.

Te'o, who decided to skip the draft hoopla and stay home, had received interest from the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings, but the Bears selected Oregon tackle Kyle Long, and the Vikings picked University of Florida cornerback Shariff Floyd in the first round.

The Vikings, through a trade-off with the New England Patriots, also obtained the 29th first round draft pick and again passed over Te'o for Cordarrelle Patterson, a wide receiver out of Tennessee.

Prior to Thursday's draft, football fans had already weighed in online about Te'o's chances for being selected in the first round or even being drafted at all.

One Twitter user posted a photo of an empty chair on his feed with the caption: "Waiting with manti teo's gf waiting to see what team will draft him," reported the Daily Mail.

"Manti Te'o has a better chance of getting a call from his fake girlfriend rather than an NFL team," another tweeted.

Others noted that the Heisman Trophy runner-up's recent performances on the grid iron could have been the determining factor.

Te'o struggled in the national championship game against Alabama and ran a 4.82-second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine, considered slow for a linebacker, noted the Associated Press.

The infamous hoax, which made national headlines in January after being broken by Deadspin.com, involved a non-existent girlfriend, who Te'o claimed he believed was real, dying hours after his grandmother passed away.

A fan, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, admitted to orchestrating the hoax out of his love for the Notre Dame linebacker.

Te'o's involvement in the hoax was never fully determined.
