A man who lost $1,300 in a supermarket parking lot had the money returned to him after a good Samaritan turned it in to the store and he was identified on surveillance video.
Chris Woods of Clearwater, Florida, told Fox13 Tampa Bay he took the money out of one account and intended to deposit it into another one about two weeks ago. Woods said he thinks the money got between his two cell phones in his pocket and when he took one out in a Publix parking lot, the cash fell out.
“We looked everywhere for it,” Woods said of the money. “I went everywhere and assumed it was gone.”
That was not the end of the story, however. An unidentified good Samaritan found the money and turned it in to the store.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office tweeted images from the store’s surveillance camera showing Woods as the one who lost the money, and Fox 13 aired a story showing the images on Wednesday morning.
“This morning, my neighbor from across the street came over beating on the door and said, ‘Chris you were on the news. They found your money,’” Woods told Fox13.
The return of the money has given Woods a reason to remember this Fourth of July.
“There’s good people in this world,” Woods told the news station. “I’m very blessed a good person found it.”
