Major Garrett of CBS is writing a new book covering the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency that is set to be released next fall.
“Mr. Trump's Wild Ride: The Thrills, Chills, Screams, and Occasional Blackouts of the First Year with America's 45th President” will share an insider’s perspective of the trials and tribulations of Trump’s first year in office, publisher All Points Books notes.
“President Trump simultaneously defies and leads political norms,” the CBS News chief White House correspondent said.
“The questions his presidency raises are by turns trivial (what is covfefe?) and profound (will there be war with North Korea?). The biggest challenge with Trump is separating the important from the interesting. The goal of this book is to do precisely that.”
Garrett’s career spans 30 years and, as a White House correspondent for nearly two decades, he has become known as one of the top U.S. political writers.
According to Leading Authorities, which represents the news correspondent as a public speaker, Garrett has been praised by former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs as “one of the smartest people in the briefing room” and “a tireless reporter and tremendous addition to Washington bureaus by CBS News President David Rhodes.”
In an interview about covering a presidential campaign, Garrett told The Hill that, as a reporter, there was a whole different degree of work.
“When you’re most tired as a reporter, and interestingly as a president-elect, that’s some of when you have to do your hardest work,” he said. “That’s the great, intoxicating part of D.C. for me, but it’s also the part that grinds you down.”
Last year Garrett focused on the 2016 White House race and traveled the country extensively, covering almost every GOP debate and campaign.
