Celebrities are going naked in an effort to encourage people to vote in the upcoming 2020 elections. Several stars including Sarah Silverman, Chris Rock, Amy Schumer, Mark Ruffalo, Kerry Washington, and Naomi Campbell have stripped of their clothing for a new attention-grabbing public service announcement that highlights the guidelines for mail-in voting.
In the clip, the group of celebrities discuss the "naked ballot" laws, which require voters to place their ballots in an inner and outer envelope in order for their vote to count. They also emphasize the importance of following specific voting instructions and mailing ballots early.
"Don't sit on them. Get those things out ASAP," Ruffalo says in the PSA.
"Everyone's voice matters in this election," adds Chelsea Handler.
"America needs you," Silverman concludes as she removes her hands from her breasts in a salute.
The PSA was created by nonpartisan organization RepresentUs, which released the video on Wednesday.
"It turns out NAKED ballots don't mean what you think they mean," the organization wrote in a tweet with a link to the PSA. "Make sure your vote and all of your friends' votes are counted and follow ALL of the instructions on your ballot. America needs you to get this right."
In a statement, RepresentUs co-founder and director Josh Silver discussed naked ballots, which he described as "the new hanging chads," according to Variety.
"The fact is that if you use the wrong pen color or don't assemble your mail-in ballot correctly, your vote may not count. This is not a partisan issue; it affects all people planning to vote by mail."
