Apple has unveiled its new MacBook Pro with a feature never seen before — a Touch Bar that stands in for the laptop’s function keys, but with much more versatility.
The Touch Bar takes the place of traditional function keys like volume controls and escape, but its retina display and touch screen functionality take it far beyond those traditional functions. The bar’s images change depending on the app a user accesses, and typing on the screen can also change the Touch Bar’s functionality.
One function getting a lot of attention turns the Touch Bar into a line of emojis; other users are gushing over how it will make photo, video and music editing easier.
Third-party app and software developers will be able to design custom functions for the Touch Bar as well, according to TechCrunch. Microsoft Office and Skype have already signaled they plan to use this functionality in their software with new updates.
“Overall, the Touch Bar looks quite powerful and compelling,” TechCrunch commented.
The Twitterverse was generally excited about the Touch Bar, but a few were skeptical about the new functionality, or the $1799 price tag it brings with it.
