Los Angeles has the worst traffic congestion in the world for the sixth straight year, according to the 11th annual report from INRIX, the connected car and transportation analytics company.
Drivers in the Los Angeles area spent 102 hours stuck in traffic in 2017 on average during peak hours, the INXIRX report said.
Even though Los Angeles had the worst traffic congestion overall, the city had lower levels of peak hour congestion than San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, and Portland, USA Today reported. Nighttime travel there also was better than in 35 other cities.
The report determined traffic congestion cost $305 billion in the U.S. in 2017, working out to about $1,445 per driver.
The U.S. had 10 of the report's top 25 cities in the world with the worst traffic congestion.
Other top cities for traffic congestion included Moscow at No. 2 followed by New York City, INRIX reported in a press release. Other U.S. cities on the list included San Francisco, Altanta, and Miami, followed by Washington, D.C., Boston, and Chicago.
Only one of the top 10 most congested roads in the U.S. was in Los Angeles: 1-10 Eastbound between exits 3A and 13. Cities with multiple congested roads at the top of the list included New York City and Chicago, with Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Boston also making the top 10 list of most congested roads.
Thailand was the top country for hours spent in traffic congestion with 56, followed by Indonesia, Columbia, and Venuzuela, INRIX reported. The U.S. is tied with Russia for fifth on the list of countries with the most traffic congestion.
