A JetBlue Airways plane skidded off the taxiway at Logan Airport in Boston on Christmas evening. Firefighters helped passengers off the plane, but no one was injured and the passengers were bused to the terminal.
Flight 50 from Savannah, Georgia, slid as it landed at about 7:15 p.m. The airport’s runways had been closed for a short period in the morning because of snow, the Massachusetts Port Authority told WHDH-TV.
The plane apparently hit a patch of ice, then spun around as it slid, stopping as it was facing the opposite direction, WCVB reported.
“We were straight and all of a sudden we started fishtailing,” South Carolina passenger Steve Chisholm, who was traveling to Boston for Christmas day, told WCVB.
Another passenger, Terri Given, described told the news station is was “like you were going four-wheeling.”
“It could have been a lot worse,” Brian Heacox told CBS Boston as he recalled the plane fishtailing “until we were looking at the runway that we had just pulled off.”
Despite the shake-up, people aboard appeared grateful after the scary incident.
“Pilot did a fantastic job,” Chisholm said. “Everybody was applauding him at the end.”
According to ABC News, an audio transcript revealed one of the pilots had told air traffic controllers, “Everything’s fine. We just skidded on the ice.”
