Live lobsters were dumped onto a highway in Maine when a truck carrying 7,000 pounds of the crustaceans crashed into an embankment and rolled over on the roadway Wednesday morning, The Boston Globe reported.
The truck was carrying between 60 to 70 crates of lobsters, which spilled onto Route 1 in Brunswick during the crash, causing traffic congestion for hours while crews worked to clean up the crustaceans.
Most of the lobsters were contained in the crates but some broke open during the crash, WBTS noted.
They were packed up and taken away from the scene, but according to the news channel, will not be sold.
Meanwhile the driver, 39-year-old Jose Albino Horrach of South Portland sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to Mid Coast Hospital.
This is not the first time that hundreds of lobsters have been dumped onto the road during a crash.
Last year a similar incident occurred when a tractor-trailer swerved to avoid hitting a deer, spilling thousands of pounds of live lobster onto Highway 103 in Nova Scotia, near Port Mouton, CBC reported.
In 2014 more than 40,000 pounds of live lobster were scattered over a New Brunswick highway when the tractor-trailer transporting them flipped over, The Toronto Sun reported.
