Disney's "The Lion King" has announced its full cast for the remake of the 1994 hit film, and Beyoncé is confirmed to take on the role of Nala.
Donald Glover will be cast as Simba while Jon Favreau, who was responsible for directing remake of "The Jungle Book," will be overseeing the new "Lion King," Rolling Stone magazine noted.
The film is scheduled to be released on July 19, 2019.
James Earl Jones, who was featured in the original "Lion King" as Simba's father, Mufasa, will reprise his role for the remake, The Hollywood Reporter noted.
Chiwetel Ejiofor will fill the villainous role of Simba's uncle Scar, and Alfre Woodard will perform as Simba's mother, Sarabi.
Jonathan Taylor Thomas, who played the young version of Simba in the original film, will hand his baton over to child actor JD McCrary for the acclaimed role while Shahadi Wright Joseph will be voicing Simba's best friend, young Nala.
"The Lion King" was a dramatic motion picture but the quirky friendship of Timon and Pumba, a meerkat and warthog, provided much comic relief. The characters will be played by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen respectively, IGN reported.
"It is a director's dream to assemble a talented team like this to bring this classic story to life," said Favreau, according to Rolling Stone.
Footage from the upcoming film was screened at the D23 Expo earlier this year and, although Disney has contained internet leaks, it has not stopped critics from excitedly describing the trailer, The Independent wrote.
