A 2017 Lexus Sriracha IS show car has been unveiled by the luxury auto-maker, but the food-inspired car is not for sale just yet.
The Lexus Sriracha comes with a trunk full of hot sauce, but not just any kind of hot sauce. The new show car will include 43 bottles of Sriracha, “the spicy, bright red Thai sauce,” Eater noted.
The new Lexus, which even has Sriracha in the paint, will be on display for the public to see at The Los Angeles Auto Show from Nov. 18-27 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Eater noted.
Lexus partnered with Huy Fong Foods to develop the custom car.
“We wanted to work with the original and were pleased that David Tran at Huy Fong Foods was open to collaborating with us,” Mariko Kusumoto, Lexus national marketing communications manager, said via a spokesperson, according to a Eater. “If you’re a fan of Sriracha, you know that the rooster bottle, green cap, and pure spiciness can’t be replicated and fans of the rooster sauce won’t settle for anything bland. It was a perfect pairing. This is our first food-inspired car and don’t have any other foodie cars planned right now.”
According to a press release, the Sriracha has several special features, including a Sriracha-injected steering wheel, Sriracha temperature settings, handcrafted seats, a driving jacket, and driving mitts.
“I feel so humbled to see my Lexus and Sriracha friends’ love for my hot sauce,” Tran said in the release. “The Lexus Sriracha IS is really the perfect mix for a ‘hot’ and ‘spicy car’ – just the way I like it.”
Since launching in 1989, Lexus has made its customers a priority on a global scale, “expanding its line-up to meet the needs of global luxury customers,” The Auto Channel noted.
In the U.S. alone, Lexus vehicles are sold by nearly 240 dealers.
Lexus posted a promotional video of the car on YouTube.
