Leonardo DiCaprio and his friends have been hailed as heroes after they helped save the life of a man who fell overboard from a Club Med yacht recently.
The Oscar-winning actor had been enjoying some much-needed downtime with his friends on a rented boat near St. Barts when they heard of a search that had been launched to find the drunken crewman lost at sea, according to People.
It would have been easy for DiCaprio to ignore the emergency call but instead he and his friends and the boat captain decided to join in on the search.
As the day wore on, many gave up hope of finding the man, Victor, alive. Even the Club Med yacht captain put his chances of survival "at one in a billion," an unnamed source told The Sun.
This did not deter Dicaprio, whose boat was the only one searching the area where Victor had drifted.
His efforts were rewarded when the crew spotted Victor near Saba island. The dehydrated crewman had been treading water for 11 hours before he was rescued.
"The ‘man overboard’ was minutes from drowning when he was found," the source said. A giant storm was approaching and the man would have been "doomed" if it were not for DiCaprio.
"Leonardo played a blinding role in his own real-life Hollywood movie," the source continued, adding that Victor thought he was "dreaming after being rescued by one of the world’s most famous faces."
