Lena Dunham, who is somewhat famous for not caring what anyone thinks of her weight, is facing criticism now for losing weight to deal with chronic illness and health issues.
The “Girls” show creator appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Wednesday and responded to Ellen’s comments about her weight and how she’s getting “a lot of flack” for her recent weight loss.
“My weight loss isn’t a triumph and it also isn’t some sign I’ve finally given in to the voices of trolls,” she posted on Instagram last week. “My body belongs to ME—at every phase, in every iteration, and whatever I’m doing with it, I’m not handing in my feminist card to anyone.”
To DeGeneres, Dunham said “bodies change, we live a long time. Things happen.” She concluded, “It really was evidenced that as a woman in Hollywood, you just can’t win.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dunham took up yoga and started exercising and following a healthy diet to try to combat her endometriosis, a painful, chronic illness.
“I smile just as wide no matter what my current size is because I’m proud of what this body has seen and done and represented,” her Instagram post proclaimed.
