Laura Muir was determined to do a victory lap after breaking the record in the 1,500 meters at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade on Saturday and had to dodge a determined track official to do it.
The British runner, who ran 4:02.39 to capture the record, managed to slip past the official who attempted to block the 23-year-old's path to the track, reported Sports Illustrated. A fan handed her a Great Britain flag from the stands after she ducked the official.
A video of the confrontation has received more than 155,000 views on YouTube.
"I had to fight for that didn't I?" Muir said afterwards with a smile, according to The Guardian. "They said: 'We don't have time.' I thought it's my first medal. I'm not going to lose out on my lap of honor. I'm going. Andy, my coach, was saying: 'Do it,' so I got there in the end. I couldn't really believe what she was saying. But I thought: 'At the end of the day, she won't be able to catch me.'"
The rising Scottish track star is a veterinary student at the University of Glasgow.
Muir found plenty of support for her victory lap on social media.
