Lance Armstrong was hospitalized briefly after bashing his face in a bloody bike crash Wednesday.
The famous cyclist was exploring the Tom Blake trail in Colorado when the accident occurred, Sports Illustrated reported. While the younger Armstrong would have shaken it off and carried on pedaling, the older and wiser version decided to play it safe and get the injury checked out.
"Took quite the blow to the noggin' so swung by the Aspen Valley Hospital (great facility!) to get my head checked," Armstrong said in an Instagram post that appeared along with a photo of his bruised and bloodied face.
"For the 46 yrs prior to today I completely would have blown off getting checked. Not now," he added.
In 2012, Armstrong was banned from cycling and stripped of his Tour de France titles after being implicated in a doping scandal.
He paid the price, losing about $100 million in sponsorships and lawsuits against him for misrepresenting himself after denying doping accusations. He was even kicked out of his own cancer foundation.
Speaking to Stephen Dubner during a Freakonomics podcast recently, he said he was working to earn the public's forgiveness.
Armstrong now hosts several podcasts, a commentary on the Tour de France, and an interview show called "The Forward."
Speaking to Dubner about this, he said, "Many of the guests that I've had on have had these moments in their lives, where they've had to establish some sort of a bottom, a low point in their life, and then decide for their own sake and their family's sake and everybody's sake that they're going to move forward."
