Lady Gaga surprised fans while headlining at Coachella music festival by dropping a new single, “The Cure,” during her Saturday night show.

The single appeared to be a return to Gaga’s synth-pop, danceable style reminiscent of 2011’s “Born This Way” album. It has only been six months since Gaga released “Joanne,” a country-twanged, more mellow sound about which fans were mixed in their reactions.

The new song popped up in the middle of Gaga’s show Saturday night, which saw her perform a range of songs from all of her albums, along with the costume changes for which she has become famous.

“The Cure” was released on iTunes and Spotify shortly after the performance, and may become a radio single for summer in anticipation of her world tour, which will kick off in August, Rolling Stone speculated.

Gaga was tapped to headline Coachella two months ago after a pregnant-with-twins Beyonce pulled out on doctor’s orders to lighten her schedule. Beyonce will take the Coachella stage in 2018 instead. Gaga is coming off a well-received Super Bowl halftime performance and performing with Metallica at the Grammy’s.

The singer also has expanded into acting recently, winning a Golden Globe for “American Horror Story” and starring in the upcoming remake of “A Star is Born.”

Fans seemed pretty excited by the new single.
