Lady Gaga will star in “American Horror Story: Hotel,” the show’s fifth season, set to premiere in October.
The singer revealed the role on Twitter.
The unexpected role certainly shows the performer's range — Gaga, usually known for pop music and weird outfits, displayed her more classical musical chops days before the "AHS" announcement with her tribute to "The Sound of Music" during the Academy Awards.
The format of “American Horror Story” is appealing because it allows stars to
commit to only one season, Entertainment Weekly said.
Director Robert Rodriguez vouched for Lady Gaga's acting skills after working with her on “Machete Kills.”
"The camera loves her. She's a great performer,”
Rodriguez told E! Online last year. “She's performed twice for me now and I was blown away by her discipline. She studied acting before she became a singer and you could really tell."
“American Horror Story” producer Ryan Murphy talked with Variety about his success in signing top talent for the show.
“It always just comes down to pure fandom with me,” he said. “I just speak from the heart about why I love them.”
