Kyle Busch narrowly evaded a full-blown fan fight at the end of his controversially bumpy race over the weekend at NASCAR’s Monster Energy Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway, according to Bleacher Report.
Video footage of the altercation shared with WJHL 11 shows the NASCAR star hop off a golf cart near the exit tunnel, and approach a fan who had reportedly been heckling him.
Busch bumps chests with the fan while onlookers yell obscenities at the NASCAR driver before police intervene and break the encounter up.
Additional footage of the scuffle was shared with Wide World of Motorsports and circulated on Twitter.
It was unclear what the altercation was about but it came after Busch left the track minus a win and facing backlash for starting a 15-car wreck that cost Martin Truex Jr. the race when Busch made contact with his championship rival’s Toyota, The New York Post reported.
After the race, Busch admitted that it was his fault, adding that he felt terrible for clipping Truex, USA Today reported.
“I didn’t think I was next to him yet, and I clipped him and sent him for a whale of a ride,” Busch said, according to the Post. “Hopefully, he’s all right and everything is OK there. I hated that I clipped him, I know he could have had a good shot to win the race, too.”
His post-race remarks didn’t stop Truex’s girlfriend, Sherry Pollex, from taking to Twitter to call Busch a moron.
Soon, Busch was taking heat on social media from other Twitter users who joined Pollex in criticizing him for the eventful day Saturday.
“Your lack of sportsmanship totally tells me what kind of person you really are,” one NASCAR fan tweeted.
“Truex is a class act, you, not so much,” another Twitter user added.
