Being a Christian in Hollywood is not always easy. Even stars with the strongest faith may encounter their share of challenges, which is what Kristin Chenoweth discovered when she moved to New York to pursue a career in showbiz.
Fresh out of college and new to the city, she had no idea what to expect. Having grown up a Christian, Chenoweth soon realized it would take some time to adapt to the city’s way of life.
The actress revisited those early memories in an interview with "Fox & Friends" on Monday.
"I'm a Christian person and I never thought that was different or interesting at all until I moved to New York and started understanding that there are a lot of people with a lot of faiths," said Chenoweth.
The 51-year-old admitted it has been an "interesting journey" for her as a Christian in showbiz.
"I'm an LGBTQ activist and sometimes that doesn't always go together, you know? But, I just keep trying to say, 'What would Jesus do?' and that's the way I live my life," she said.
Chenoweth, who is a Tony Award-winning performer and has received Emmy nominations for her appearances in "Glee" and "Pushing Daisies," said she did stumble from time to time but her solid beliefs have kept her on the right path.
"I'm not perfect, I mess up a lot," she said. "But, I'm certainly glad I have my faith."
Chenoweth was speaking ahead of a Christmas special, set to air Dec. 16., which will see her perform a series of holiday classics alongside 200 singers and 175 orchestra members from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
"I'm very, very proud of it. And, you know, just because we don't exactly believe everything the same, the Mormons and I, I feel like music is such a unification thing and we move forward through the music," she said.
