Kid Rock for Senate? No way he told Howard Stern, in no uncertain terms, during a Tuesday morning interview, The Wrap reported. He told Stern the U.S. Senate race in Michigan was all just a publicity stunt to create buzz around his new album.
“... I’m not running for senate, are you (bleep) kidding me?” he said on “The Howard Stern Show,” per The Wrap. “Who couldn’t figure that out?”
Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, drew attention to his faux campaign earlier this year after launching a Kid Rock for Senate website.
He later announced his intentions on Twitter, posting a sign that read "Kid Rock for U.S. Senate" with the caption: "I have had a ton of emails and texts asking me if this website is real… The answer is an absolute YES."
Now Ritchie thinks the publicity stunt may have been "the worst advice that I ever gave myself, but it's been the most creative thing I've ever done,” per The Rolling Stone.
He said while the marketing campaign may not have been his best endeavor, it succeeded in creating hype around his forthcoming album, “Sweet Southern Sugar,” which is due out No. 3.
