Kenya Moore, star of the reality show "Real Housewives of Atlanta," grieved the loss of her dog Velvet on Sunday's episode of the show.

Moore, whose Yorkshire Terrier was attacked and killed by another dog, cried uncontrollably as her aunt consoled her in the episode.

"It happened so fast. I let her outside and then I heard her screaming," Moore said. "I ran outside. She was on the other side of the gate. The dog had her in its mouth, dangling her."

Moore said she immediately took her dog to the veterinary hospital, but they could not save her. Moore explained on camera that Velvet had been by her side for seven years.

"I wasn't there to protect her," Moore told her aunt. "She always protected me … even though she was little. Why her? Why now? How do I go on?"

Previously, there was some controversy surrounding Moore and her dog. RadarOnline reported that Moore had abandoned Velvet after she moved out of a suburban Atlanta home this past September.

"The 42-year-old former Miss USA — already branded the 'neighbor from hell' — 'abandoned' adorable Velvet, herself an occasional star on Bravo, at her suburban Atlanta, Ga., home after she moved out in contentious circumstances earlier this year, according to neighbors," RadarOnline reported at the time.

"Velvet is currently living with one of Kenya’s neighbors," one neighbor said of the dog in September. "Apparently, Kenya never picked up her dog from a neighbor. I have seen the dog running around the neighborhood on several occasions. She even went back to the home that Kenya was renting, looking for her owner. It’s all very sad."

Moore said the RadarOnline story was false and claimed that her enemies were behind the report.
