Kentucky Infant Found Safe After Carjacking, Amber Alert

By    |   Friday, 19 Dec 2014 04:09 PM

A 20-day-old infant who was stolen during a Kentucky carjacking was found safe a little more than two hours after the car he was in was taken from a gas station.

An Amber Alert was issued for Henry Flores on Thursday after he went missing about 4:30 p.m. from a gas station in Florence, Kentucky. The baby’s mother pumped gas and then entered the store with another child and without the infant to pay for the gas, WLWT reported.

Video showed a suspect getting in the car and leaving.

Not long after, two women noticed the baby in the back of the car, which was abandoned at a convenience store. “We just started crying. We just wanted to make sure that the baby was okay," they told WLWT.

The two women, Megan Lewis and Jenny Ford, were not together, but both pulled into the gas station and saw the Passat, and they recognized it from the Amber Alert they received on their phones.

“When I pulled in on my way to work, I thought, ‘There's no way that's the car.’ And I saw the license plate. I saw those three zeroes and without those three zeroes I probably wouldn't have known it was the car,” Lewis told the station. “And I looked at her and we were like, 'Are we seeing the same thing?' but it was the car and the baby was still inside.”

"He was sleeping underneath his covers and the car was actually still warm,” Ford told WLWT. "(His family members) were crying and so happy and relieved. We were just so excited that the baby got reunited with his family.”

Lewin told WCPO, "I even said to my mom, 'I'm going to go see if I can find the baby on my way to work.’ No joke, my mom's standing over there and then I go there and I was like, 'This is not a joke, like I seriously found the baby.'"

WCPO said video surveillance from the Sunoco station where the baby was found showed that the suspect parked and walked away, covering his face with his hood.
