A statement by Rogers said he “has been working through a series of health challenges” and that “his doctors fully expect the outcome to be great,” USA Today reported. It also said Rogers had been advised to cancel his performances through the end of 2018 to “focus on recuperation.”
Rogers' farewell world tour, “The Gambler’s Last Deal,” began in 2016 and was due to end in August. The tour’s name is based on one of the country singer's most famous songs, “The Gambler.” Rogers, 79, announced his retirement in 2015.
Remaining tour stops included Reno, Nevada, New York City, and the Livewire Festival in Blackpool, U.K., which was to be the final stop, ABC News reported.
“I didn’t want to take forever to retire,” Rogers said in the statement, USA Today reported. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to say farewell to the fans over the course of the past two years. ... I could never properly thank them for the encouragement and support they’ve given me throughout my career and the happiness I’ve experienced as a result of that.”
Fans who bought tickets for any of the canceled performances will be able to get refunds from the point of purchase, USA Today reported.
