"The Kelly Clarkson Show" will take over the slot left vacant when Ellen DeGeneres wraps up her longstanding daytime talk show.
Clarkson's award-winning show will take over the slot in fall 2022 on NBC-owned stations, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Now in its second season, "The Kelly Clarkson Show" currently airs on 200 stations and has received several Daytime Emmy Award nominations and awards, including Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host, according to IMDB. The show was renewed last year for two additional runs.
"These are remarkable achievements for a talk show in its second season. We look forward to Ellen DeGeneres’ 19th season paired with Kelly Clarkson for what is sure to be a blockbuster year," said Valari Staab, president of NBCUniversal Local. "By 2022, 'The Kelly Clarkson Show' will be the star of our daytime entertainment schedules and an asset to our early afternoon newscasts."
Tracie Wilson, executive vice president for NBCUniversal Syndication Studios, noted that the show was one of the "most optimistic success stories in first-run syndication.
"It is a treasured part of NBCUniversal Syndication Studios offering and we are proud to partner with the NBC Owned Television Stations group to continue the show’s success," Wilson said. "Kelly and our entire production team put their heart, intent, and incredible passion into making a show that resonates with people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds. We’re working on some big plans for season three and are looking forward to becoming the premier show in daytime for years to come."
The news comes two weeks after DeGeneres announced that she would be ending her talk show after 19 years.
"I want you to know that I’ve thought a lot about this decision," she said in a monologue for her show at the time, according to Fox News. "I sat with it for a while. I meditated on it. I talked to [my wife] Portia [de Rossi]. I talked to myself ... The point is, I need to take a break from talking."
DeGeneres signed a contract two years ago that would see the show air until 2022.
"You may wonder why I’ve decided to end after 19 seasons. The truth is, I always trust my instincts. My instinct told me it’s time," DeGeneres said. "As a comedian, I’ve always understood the importance of timing. In all seriousness, I truly have felt like next season was the right time to end this amazing chapter."
