A new documentary about singer Kanye West that has been 21 years in the making will be coming to Netflix. The streaming service has just acquired the mini-series for upwards of $30 million and it will be debuted later this year, sources have revealed to Billboard.

At the helm of the project are filmmakers Clarence "Coodie" Simmons and Chike Ozah, who directed two of West's videos, "Through the Wire" and the third version of "Jesus Walks."

Simmons has reportedly been documenting West since the early 1990s and viewers can expect never-before-seen footage and home videos in the documentary, which takes a look at the rapper's rise to success as well as the death of his mother, Donda West, and the impact it had on his career, insiders told the outlet.

It is unclear whether West's split with Kim Kardashian will be chronicled in the series.

Kardashian filed for divorce in February and West has reportedly been having a hard time coming to terms with it, sources revealed to People.

"Kanye is not doing well," an insider told the outlet. "He is anxious and very sad. He knows that the marriage is over, and there's nothing that can be done right now. He also knows what he is losing in Kim."

Things have reportedly been strained between the couple for quite a while. In July, Kanye made the shocking revelation that he had been considering divorcing Kardashian since November 2018, according to a report by People at the time. Days later insiders confirmed that the pair had been discussing divorce for several weeks.

"They are just not on the same page when it comes to their future as a family. And Kim is okay with it," another source told People.

Kardashian's mother, Kris Jenner, broke her silence on the divorce during an appearance on "The Kyle & Jackie O Show" in March.

"I think it's always going to be hard any time ... you know, there's a lot of kids," she said. "The good thing about our family is that we are there for each other and supportive and we love each other very, very much — so all I want is for those two kids to be happy," she continued. "And I want the kids to be happy. That's the goal."

Jenner added: "I think we all want that for our families, just to be able to have ... the love and appreciation of one another and just that everyone's okay."
