An NFL poll asked viewers if Colin Kaepernick should be signed to a team or not, according to a report, and could have implications for the quarterback's collusion case.

Sources told Yahoo Sports the NFL approved the research conducted by Washington-based The Glover Park Group four months into Kaepernick’s free agency but didn’t provide specific statistical results, just general findings that respondents were divided along racial, generational and political lines.

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Kaepernick was the only player mentioned specifically by name in the poll that also asked whether the league should discipline players and staff who don’t stand for the national anthem, Yahoo Sports reported.

Findings were reportedly sent to league officials, commissioner Roger Goodell, and other high-ranking officials.

The poll could impact Kaepernick’s collusion lawsuit against the league by raising questions about the NFL's attitude toward the embattled quarterback, who contends that team owners conspired not to sign him to another contract because of his decision to kneel for the anthem to protest racial injustice.

If poll results were sent to team owners that were considering signing Kaepernick and influenced their decision about whether to do so, it could boost Kaepernick’s case against the NFL and various team owners, who have argued that they decided not to sign him based on his playing ability, Yahoo Sports reported.

NFL owners decided this week to fine teams whose players don’t stand when the national anthem is performed before a game.

Ratings during the 2017-2018 NFL regular season fell 9.7 percent after falling 8 percent in the previous season as fans registered their displeasure over player protests. The Super Bowl also had lower ratings than expected.
