'Justified' End Coming After Season 6, FX Confirms

FX’s crime drama series “Justified” will end after Season 6 runs its course, network officials have confirmed.

The critically acclaimed show centers around Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, an old-school lawman who is reassigned to the Lexington, Ky., office after his controversial but “justified” shooting of a mob hitman in Miami. The office includes the backwoods hamlet of Harlan County, which is where Givens grew up and from where he thought he had escaped.

Timothy Olyphant plays Givens, and FX CEO John Landgraf told reporters this week that Olyphant and screenwriter Graham Yost decided it was time to call it quits.

“I would have liked to have had more 'Justifieds,'" Landgraf said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “It’s one of my favorite shows.”

Fans often took to Twitter to talk about the series.

Landgraf said there had been past discussions about ending the series.

“We talked about it a year ago,” he said. “They (Yost and Olyphant) felt that the arc of the show and what they had to say would be best served by six seasons instead of seven. Regretfully, I accepted their decision.”

Yost continued, “A lot of it was just figuring out how much story we had left. Our biggest concern is running out of story and repeating ourselves. This was a long conversation. There were financial incentives to keep going, but it really felt, in terms of story, that six years felt about right.”

“Justified,” which is based on the late-Elmore Leonard’s novels “Pronto” and “Riding the Rap” and a short story of his called “Fire in the Hole,” has been nominated for numerous Primetime Emmy Awards.

Season 5 premiered on Jan. 7.
