Joel Taylor of “Storm Chasers” died unexpectedly on Tuesday at age 38, and although the cause of death was unknown it wasn’t believed to be storm related.
The reality TV star’s best friend and former Discovery Channel co-star, Reed Timmer, confirmed news of the death via social media on Tuesday, People magazine reported.
Taylor studied meteorology at the University of Oklahoma before pursuing a career chasing storms, which ultimately led to him joining the crew on Discovery Channel’s “Storm Chasers,” E! News reported.
During his studies, Taylor met Timmer and the two went on to film a documentary, “Tornado Glory,” which shared their journey through Tornado Alley in 2003.
Several years later they both found themselves enlisted into the team for “Storm Chasers,” with Taylor serving as a meteorologist as well as a driver from 2008 to 2012, when the show was cancelled.
The two friends’ relationship took a knock when Timmer decided to expand upon the storm chasing website, TornadoVideos.Net, for which Taylor had little interest in, according to the Discovery Channel.
Instead, Taylor opted to focus his time and efforts on developing a career in real estate, but the friends reconnected to create the documentary “Tornado Chasers.”
