Joe Perry, the longtime guitarist for Aerosmith, collapsed onstage during a Sunday performance with the Hollywood Vampires at the Ford Amphitheater on the Coney Island Boardwalk in New York.
Us Weekly reported that longtime rocker Alice Cooper, who is part of the Hollywood Vampires along with Oscar-nominated actor Johnny Depp, posted on Twitter that Perry was "stable." Fans at the concert watched Perry, 65, struggle to finish a song before managing to make it off stage.
Emergency officials confirmed to NBC News that an ambulance was called to the amphitheater about 9:40 p.m. A police spokesman said that a 65-year-old man was transported by ambulance and was listed as stable.
"He sat down during the song and then walked off behind the drum set," Kevin Phalon, an audience member, told NBC News. "After that, you could see a whole bunch of backstage people run off to the left side of the stage."
CNN wrote that it was not clear as of Monday why Perry collapsed. Perry thanked fans for reaching out to him on Twitter.
Perry, who cofounded Aerosmith and put out their first album in 1973, released his autobiography, "Rocks: My Life in and out of Aerosmith," in 2014,
noted MTV.
Aerosmith, which has sold more than 150 million albums and won four Grammy Awards,
was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
