Joe McGrath of Manchester, England, was treated to a vacation to Spain with nine strangers because their friend by the same name bailed on the trip.
The group of nine Brits planned a getaway to Mallorca, Spain, to celebrate their friend Nathan’s birthday, but one friend, Joe McGrath, had to bail on the group at the last minute. They decided to use the extra ticket by finding someone with the same name to go on the trip, according to New York magazine.
One of the group, Dan, found Joe McGrath on Facebook and extended the invitation to him through the social media site. McGrath was a bit skeptical but just couldn’t pass on a free trip to Spain, NY Mag reported.
“Although I had my doubt if the offer was legit, I decided to take the plunge as my legendary boss gave me the time off work,” McGrath said in a Facebook post.
“I drove down to Bristol on Saturday night and had a mad three days with complete strangers that I think I can call my good friends.” He continued, “What a mega group of people! I loved every minute of it.”
One of the friends tweeted a pic of Joe at the airport.
“I want to apologize to my mum who thought I knew these people all along,” McGrath ended his Facebook post.
Joe’s Twitter followers alternated between saying they didn’t think it really happened and congratulating him for scoring a free vacation.
