Jimmy Fallon's mother died Saturday, and the "Tonight Show" has been canceled for the week as Fallon mourns her death, Fox News noted.
Gloria Fallon, 68, died at a New York hospital of an undisclosed illness. She was with her son and other family members at the time of her death, Fox News said.
The news comes a day after Friday's taping of the talk show was canceled pending what the network deemed a "family matter."
A source later told Variety that Fallon's mother was in a hospital with an illness and Jimmy Fallon canceled the broadcast to be with her.
Following her death, NBC released a statement to E! News, saying: "On behalf of everyone at NBC, we extend our deepest condolences to Jimmy and all his family at this time of enormous loss. Our hearts go out to Jimmy and everyone else whose lives were so touched by Gloria Fallon's love, kindness and support."
Jimmy Fallon has openly spoken about his close relationship with his mother, who has been hailed as his "biggest fan."
The Los Angeles Times noted that Gloria Fallon attended her son's first taping on the first night that he hosted "The Tonight Show" in 2014.
Jimmy Fallon has also fondly referenced his mother on social media as well as in interviews and with guests on his show.
Deadline noted that, in an interview with New York Magazine in 2004, Jimmy Fallon spoke about his childhood with his mother.
"My mom was like a total square; she wasn't allowed to leave her stoop in Brooklyn," said Jimmy Fallon.
"She was a nun for about a month, but then she was like, 'You know what? I didn't get the calling!' Ha!"
Since news of Gloria Fallon's death, social media has been flooded with messages of support to her son.
