A wrongful death lawsuit against Jim Carrey brought by the family of his ex-girlfriend Cathronia White has been dismissed in California.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed with Carrey’s publicist that the case against him for wrongful death in White’s 2015 drug overdose was dismissed after Carrey’s attorney argued the claims were untrue and could not be proven.

White’s family had accused Carrey of giving her three STDs and of illegally obtaining the drugs that killed her, THR reported. The death was ruled a suicide.

Carrey countersued the family in September 2017, claiming that the lawsuits against him were an attempt to extort him out of money because he was a famous actor. One of the suits was brought by White’s husband Mark Burton, and the other by White’s mother Brigid Sweetman.

The countersuit alleged that White had the STDs before meeting Carrey and that she had threatened on a previous occasion to accuse him publicly of giving them to her unless he paid her money, the New York Daily News reported.

Carrey alleged White falsified her medical records with incorrect dates and altered information, the Daily News reported.

In a statement when he countersued, Carrey said, “I will not give in a second time to these same fraudulent charges initiated by Cat’s husband ... and her estranged mother. Nor am I responsible for what these desperate characters have inadvertently unearthed about the woman I adored,” E! News reported.
