Showtime announced Thursday that Jim Carrey will star in a new comedy series called "Kidding" in his first television series role since "In Living Color."
Carrey will play Jeff, also known as famous television star Mr. Pickles, in the half-hour series, which will have 10 episodes for the first season, Variety reported. The show chronicles what happens when Jeff’s family begins to fall apart and leaves him without adequate coping skills.
Michel Gondry, the director of “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” which also starred Carrey, will direct the new comedy, Variety said. Dave Holstein (“I’m Dying Up Here,” “Weeds”) created the series and wrote the pilot, and will be showrunner for the series. Carrey currently directs the Showtime comedy “I’m Dying Up Here.”
Carrey will executive produce "Kidding" along with Gondry, Jason Bateman, and others, Deadline reported.
Carrey recently attended film festivals in Toronto and Venice to present his documentary “Jim and Andy,” about his portrayal of Andy Kaufman in “Man on the Moon.” Carrey won the lead actor Golden Globe for “Man on the Moon” as well as for 1998's “The Truman Show.”
No premiere date for the new show has been released.
Holstein shared his shock about the show’s acceptance on Twitter, and fans were supportive.
