Jim Carrey has enraged Benito Mussolini's granddaughter with his latest drawing, depicting the Italian dictator hanging upside down alongside his mistress. The 57-year-old used his latest piece of art to warn of the public about fascism.
The image was based on the capture and execution of Benito Mussolini in 1945 by the Italian resistance movement, Yahoo Entertainment reported.
It was not long after Carrey shared the drawing on Twitter that Alessandra Mussolini, a right-wing member of the European Parliament, slammed the actor in a series of tweets portraying controversial moments in U.S. history that she felt Carrey should have depicted. In another post, she defended Trump and his administration against Carrey's wrath.
"President @realDonaldTrump doesn't have to worry about poor @JimCarrey politica attacks; his drawings are only dirty paper."
Alessandra Mussolini's posts drew a much less forgiving response than Carrey received from followers. One Twitter user pointed out that Benito Mussolini "gave birth to a movement that killed millions in a war that devastated the planet."
Another urged Alessandra Mussolini to avoid deflecting from her grandfather's "atrocities with other injustices in history," adding that the fact that she didn’t "denounce his horrible acts" spoke volumes of her character.
Carrey has been known to get under the skin of political figures with his artwork. He recently caused a stir for a cartoon aimed at Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway and her husband, as well as for a separate piece of art that targets Trump.
Earlier this month Carrey could also not resist taking a swipe at actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman for their involvement in the recent college admission scandal.
"It’s not only Lori Loughlin, Felicity Huffman and their kids, but ALL cheaters who will eventually receive a failing grade," he wrote in a tweet alongside the piece of art that has a red "F" stamped across a cartoon of what could only be Loughlin.
