R&B singer Jill Scott has come under fire for her social media support for embattled comedian Bill Cosby as he basically ignores all of the allegations of various women of sexual assaults starting in the 1970s.

In a series of Twitter post, Scott has defended the star of the 1980s sitcom "The Cosby Show," who just recently resigned from the board of trustees of Temple University, where he graduated from, according to USA Today.

Scott has also defended her support as Twitter users questioned why she is so adamant about siding with Cosby.

Others on social media expressed their displeasure with Scott for her support of Cosby.

The New York Daily News noted that Scott is a Philadelphia native, like Cosby, and received an honorary degree from Temple in May, which was presented to her by Cosby.

The claims against Cosby date back to the 1970s and 1980s, and criminal charges have never been filed against the comedian and actor. In 2006, Cosby settled a civil case  brought against him by Andrea Constand, a former director of operations for Temple University's women's basketball team.

The allegations exploded publicly in October after fellow comedian Hannibal Buress ridiculed Cosby in his stand-up routine, calling him a rapist.

On Tuesday, Judy Huth filed a civil lawsuit against Cosby claiming that in 1974 when she was 15 and her friend was 16, he gave them alcohol, and then took them to the Playboy Mansion where he "proceeded to sexually molest her by attempting to put his hand down her pants and taking her hand and performing a sex act on himself without her consent," reported ABC News.
