Jessa Seewald publically criticized brother Josh Duggar when she posted a link on her social media accounts on Tuesday to her father-in-law’s online blog post condemning Josh’s infidelity to his wife in the wake of the Ashley Madison leaks.
The 22-year-old took to Twitter to urge her followers to read Michael Seewald’s post, entitled,
“Grief, Shame, and Taking the LORD’s Name in Vain,” just a couple weeks after Josh was revealed to be a subscriber to the infidelity-assisting
Ashley Madison website, according to the New York Daily News.
This latest scandal came just a month after news surfaced revealing that Josh Duggar, as a teenager, molested five girls, including Jessa, who initially supported her brother.
“I’m not going to justify anything that he did or say it was OK . . . [He] was a young boy in puberty and a little too curious about girls. And that got him into
some trouble,” Seewald said during an interview with Fox News. “And he made some bad choices, but really the extent of it was mild, inappropriate touching.”
Despite her earlier support for Josh Duggar, Jessa Seewald’s Tuesday tweet implied that she is aligning herself with her father-in-law’s condemnation.
In the article, Michael Seewald wrote of his distress concerning Josh Duggar’s “secretly sinful lifestyle.”
“He claimed to be a Christian, but by his deeds he has suggested otherwise. With the name of God on his lips he lived a covert and extensive lifestyle of evil. While proudly saying things like, ‘Our family is like the epitome of conservative values,' he was looking at porn and soliciting affairs,” he wrote.
Although he recounted his initial stand in solidarity with Josh Duggar during the molestation scandal and his belief that Josh “appeared to be a changed man,” Michael Seewald ultimately called Josh “a pretender.”
“Sadly, he had deceived us all. The name of God has been blasphemed and God is jealous for his name,” he wrote. “True Christians fail often, but their lives are truly being conformed to the image of Christ. Do not look at Josh and justify your own sins by dismissing the reality of genuine faith and a holy God. When you stand before God, you will not be compared to hypocritical Christians.”
