Polish historian Jerzy Targalski was unfazed as his cat climbed on his shoulders and stole the show during an interview last week on Dutch television.
The historian and political scientist was discussing the Polish Supreme Court on the news program "Nieuwsuur," when his cat, without warning, climbed up on Targalski’s shoulders, curled himself around the academic’s head and remained there.
Targalski continued talking to journalist Rudy Bouma as if it were all pre-planned. Targalski seemed to take no notice until the cat’s tail blocked his vision. At that point he gently repositioned the tail, but allowed the cat to maintain its perch.
Bouma tweeted a video of the historian and cat, with this inscription: “The Polish historian & political scientist Jerzy Targalski remained completely unruffled during our interview when this happened.”
The clip was viewed 483,000 times as of Monday afternoon.
The interview wasn’t aired live, and most of the cat fiasco was edited out of the final program shown on Dutch TV channel NTR. The producers did, however, include a shot of Targalski petting his feline.
Everyone pretty much agreed — Targalski is a good person with a kind heart.
