Jeremih is sharing details of his battle with coronavirus, which left him fighting for his life in ICU. In an interview with "Sway In The Morning" on Tuesday, the R&B star opened up about the harrowing experience.
"What I can say is, man, it definitely is real. I didn’t take it for granted. And truth be told, I’m a living, walking testimony," Jeremih, whose real name is Jeremy Felton, said. "To let y’all know, I was really down bad for the last month and a half. While I was in there — you know, I don’t even remember the day I went in. That’s how messed up I was."
Jeremih was rushed to ICU and placed on a ventilator after he began to suffer from "severe COVID-19 health complications," a representative revealed to ET Canada in a statement last month. His family asked for prayers as they waited to hear whether or not he would recover from the virus that "viciously attacked his body."
Looking back, Jeremih recalled having a tube down his throat for several days. He said he was completely out of it while lying in the hospital bed.
"I was really, like, in a dream, and I ain’t gonna lie, I woke up about two times and all I remember is just seeing a white light," he said. "What I ended up having was called a [multisystem] inflammatory syndrome: MIS," the singer continued. "All my organs became inflamed. My heart started beating irregularly, my kidneys went out, my liver started to go bad. Mind you, I didn’t know what was going on at the time. I was out."
After being released from ICU the reality of the condition soon settled in as Jeremih was forced to relearn basic functions.
"I had to learn how to walk again, eat, all that," he explained.
Although he was on the brink of death, Jeremih said he is now able to see the positive side of things.
"I look at it as kind of somewhat of a blessing now, as crazy as it might sound," he said. "I needed to sit down. I needed to take a break."
