Jennifer Morrison, who plays Emma on “Once Upon a Time,” will not return for the seventh season of the show, if it is renewed by ABC.
The show’s return is considered to be likely, according to The Hollywood Reporter, but Morrison posted on social media she has decided it's “time to move on” from the show, which twists the stories of various Disney characters and mixes storylines.
Morrison said in a post on Facebook and Instgram, “Emma Swan is one of my favorite characters that I have ever played. ... I will be forever grateful to Adam, Eddy and ABC for giving me the gift of playing Emma Swan.”
Morrison said she would continue to attend fan conventions surrounding the show and that she has agreed to do at least one episode of Season 7 if asked.
Morrison begins a new role opposite Matthew Perry in “The End of Longing” in June, THR reported.
"The past six years of collaborating with Jennifer as Emma Swan have been truly magical," said series showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, THR reported. "She gave life to a brand-new Disney princess, filled with strength and intelligence and an incredible closet full of red leather jackets. She will always be part of this show and its heart and soul."
Horowitz has said the show will be going off in a different direction the next season. Emma’s parents, Snow White and Prince Charming, played by Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas, are expected to follow Morrison's lead, THR said.
“Once Upon a Time” has lost about 30 percent of its live viewership this season.
Twitter fans were sad to see Morrison go.
