Jennifer Lawrence plans to take a year off from acting to work to "fix our democracy," Fox News reported.
The Oscar-winning actress made the announcement on Thursday during a promotional appearance for her new movie, "Red Sparrow."
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the Hollywood A-lister said she was planning to work with the non-profit organization, Represent.Us, which sees its members band together to fight for legislation to be implemented that can fight corruption.
Lawrence said she hoped to get the youth engaged and talking on a political level.
"It doesn't have anything to do with partisan [politics]," she told Entertainment Tonight. "It's just anti-corruption and stuff trying to pass state by state laws that can help prevent corruption, fix our democracy."
Lawrence is known for using her prominent role as an actress to address various human rights issues, having previously spoken out about her opposition to President Trump as well as her views on gender equality in Hollywood and planned parenthood, The Washington Examiner noted.
"It's not easy to speak out," the actress said, per Entertainment Tonight. "It's not easy to face criticism on a global scale. But the fact is I have been given a platform, and if I don't use it, then I don't deserve it. This last year has been a trying and challenging time in our world and our industry specifically. Every day, we wake up to a myriad of headlines that deeply impact us, from around the globe."
