Jamie Oliver's paella recipe caused gasps of dissent when the British celebrity chef included chorizo in his version of the traditional Spanish dish.
The star of "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution" posted a photo of the dish on Twitter.
The post sparked a revolution of comments against Oliver, with incredulous Spaniards coming together in unity to pan what they are calling an "abomination."
Paella originated in Valencia and includes rice plus ingredients such as rabbit, seafood, snails, and artichokes — but never chorizo, the BBC reported.
MarketWatch quipped Oliver's new recipe for the 1,200-year-old dish "incited a new Anglo-Spanish war" and amounted to a "sideline skirmish" amid tensions over the summer's Brexit vote.
Oliver also drew fire two years ago for his version of West Africa's traditional jollof rice dish, MarketWatch noted.
Oliver isn't the first celebrity chef to get roasted for tampering with Spanish tradition, The Guardian reported, noting that Gordon Ramsey was criticized earlier this year for including chili in paella.
Some social media users responded with colorful comparisons.
Others on social media welcomed the controversial recipe.
