Jamie Foxx's sister, who was an ambassador for Down syndrome, has died at 36. The actor and singer-songwriter shared that DeOndra Dixon had passed away in an Instagram post on Monday. "My heart is shattered into a million pieces," Foxx captioned a black and white photo of the two of them.
"My beautiful loving sister Deondra has transitioned... I say transitioned because she will always be alive... anyone who knew my sis... knew that she was a bright light."
Dixon was born with Down syndrome on Sept. 6, 1984, in Dallas, Texas. An active child, she was competing in the Special Olympics by the time she was in sixth grade and would continue to do so for over nine more years, according to her biography for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation, which she was an ambassador for.
After school, Dixon moved to California to live with Foxx and to pursue her dream of becoming a professional dancer. She appeared in Foxx's music video "Blame It" and danced on stage at several of his concerts and at the Grammys.
"I can’t tell you how many times we have had parties at the house where she has got on the dance floor and stolen the show," Foxx wrote in his tribute to Dixon. "Well I know she is in heaven now dancing with her wings on...tho my pain is unbelievable I smile when I think of all of the great memories that she left me... my family... and her friends…"
Foxx added that he loved his sister and felt as if she had left "a hole in my heart.
"I love you with every ounce of me.," he wrote. "Our family is shattered but we will put the pieces back together with your love... and y’all please keep my family in your prayers."
