Former "Dawson's Creek" star James Van Der Beek says older men in Hollywood harassed and groped him when he was younger.
Van Der Beek condemned Harvey Weinstein on Twitter before talking about his own experiences.
"What Weinstein is being accused of is criminal. What he's admitted to is unacceptable — in any industry. I applaud everybody speaking out," he wrote Wednesday.
"I've had my a** grabbed by older, powerful men. I've had them corner me in inappropriate sexual conversations when I was much younger," he continued in following tweets. "I understand the unwarranted shame, powerlessness & inability to blow the whistle. There's a power dynamic that feels impossible to overcome."
Van Der Beek joined the growing number of women and men who have related stories of harassment and assault at the hands of the powerful and influential in Hollywood.
More than 30 women have come out to say film executive Weinstein harassed or assaulted them, and men such as actor Terry Crews and now Van Der Beek are sharing their struggles as well.
Van Der Beek did clarify in a later tweet that the men who groped him were "people 99.9% of you don’t know" and that he didn’t want anyone to speculate about "mentors and champions and wonderful friends" he has had in the industry. His harassers were charged and punished by others, he said, and one died.
