"Homeland" star James Rebhorn died Friday night at his home in New Jersey, his wife confirmed. The actor, known for his many character roles as well as his work in "My Cousin Vinny," "Meet the Parents," "Scent of a Woman," and "Independence Day," was 65.
Rebhorn's wife, Rebecca,
told TMZ the actor was diagnosed with melanoma, skin cancer, in 1992. He had received treatment for it ever since.

Rebhorn's condition took a turn for the worse recently, and he began receiving hospice care at this home. He insisted on working, despite his condition, through a theater performance in January.
Dianne Busch, Rebhorn's representative, told CNN, "He died on Friday at home with his loving family in attendance."
Rebhorn had been acting for five decades, most recently playing alongside actress Claire Daines as her character's father, Frank Matheson, in the critically acclaimed series "Homeland" on Showtime.
In 2007, he was invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences for his movie work.
In 1992, Soap Opera Digest recognized him with an outstanding supporting actor nomination for his work in "As the World Turns." He was also part of the series finale of "Seinfeld" in 1998, playing the part of district attorney.
In his stage career he was a member of New York's Ensemble Studio Theater.
