James Corden and Paul McCartney joined in a songfest during a “Carpool Karaoke” episode, touring Beatles landmarks and the host turning emotional when Sir Paul explained how he wrote “Let It Be.”

The “Late Late Show” host traveled to Liverpool, home of the Fab Four, for the special edition of the segment on the CBS broadcast. They sang some Beatles favorites, including “Penny Lane” while driving down the real Penny Lane.

The touching moment began when McCartney told how his mother, who died when he was a teenager, inspired the 1970 classic “Let It Be.” The former Beatle and sensational solo artist explained she came to him in a dream, “reassuring me, saying, ‘It’s gonna be OK. Just let it be.’” It was “her positivity” that helped him write the song.

“That’s the most beautiful story I’ve ever heard,” Corden responded. After the two of them sang the song, a teary-eyed Corden admitted, “It got me emotional there, Paul.”

“That’s the power of music,” Paul pointed out. “It’s weird isn’t it, how that can do that to you?”

Corden told McCartney he first heard the tune when his grandfather, a musician, played it for him. “If my granddad was here right now, he’d get an absolute kick out of this.”

“He is,” McCartney assured.

Corden told him about the joy and love his music expressed, saying “I feel like it’s more relevant now today maybe than it’s ever been.”

“We expected it to last 10 years, but it keeps going on, and on, and on,” McCartney noted.

The drive took them to McCartney’s home as a teen. He hadn’t seen it in 50 years, and he pointed out the place where he and John Lennon wrote songs together.

They ended the journey at a pub where McCartney once played. He sang a couple of tunes. Corden helped him perform “Hey Jude.”

Social media users loved the video and sent it viral.
