A Jamaican airline crew member arrived at New York’s JFK airport Saturday with a stash of cocaine — nine pounds of it — taped to his legs.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Thursday that Hugh Hall, a Jamaican national, was arrested when he allegedly attempted to smuggle the drugs in on a Fly Jamaica Airways flight that originated in Montego Bay.
Federal officers assigned to JFK directed Hall into a private search room. They reportedly found the drugs, divided into four packages, taped to his legs. Each package had a street value of $160,000, CBP said.
Hall was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations after being charged with importing a controlled substance.
“This seizure is another example of our CBP officers being ever vigilant in protecting the United States from the distribution of illicit drugs,” said Leon Hayward, Acting Director of CBP’s New York Field Operations.
Hall was ordered held without bail at his arraignment in federal court in Brooklyn Monday, the New York Daily News reported.
